Staying in Palo Alto

  • 100 rooms have been reserved for the conference at The Palo Alto Sheraton. The conference rate is $129 per night (when making a reservation, mention that you will be attending the Computers and Writing Conference). For reservations please call 1-800-874-3516 or 650-328-2800. You may also email the hotel at sheratonreservation@pahotel.com. Reservations made via email must include the following: Guest Name, Arrival/Departure Date, Address, Phone Number and Name of Group (Computers and Writing 2005). In order to qualify for the conference rate, reservations must be made before May 17, 2005.
  • 20 rooms (standard size beds) have been blocked at Stanford's SLAC Guest House. The conference rate is $69 per night.

Traveling to Stanford

The San Francisco South Bay Area has 2 major international airports. Both the San Francisco Airport - SFO (21 miles north of Stanford) and the San Jose Airport - SJC (17 miles south of Stanford) offer fee-based door-to-door shuttles to the Bay Area 24 hours a day.

From Oakland

Take BART to the South Bay (Milbrae station) and then take the Caltrain to Palo Alto (Palo Alto station).

Driving directions to the conference:


From Highway 101 North & South (From the San Francisco International Airport and from the San Jose International Airport):
Take the University Avenue exit West, toward Palo Alto. Continue straight on University Avenue crossing over El Camino Real; University Avenue then turns into Palm Drive. Follow Palm until it ends on the Stanford Oval. The Program in Writing and Rhetoric is located in Building 460 at the top of the Stanford Oval.

From Highway 280:
Take Alpine Road exit East toward Palo Alto to Junipero Serra Boulevard. Turn right on Junipero Serra, then turn left at the first stoplight onto Campus Drive West. Follow Campus Drive West to Roth Way. Make a right on Roth Way, and follow it to Palm Drive. Make a right turn on Palm Drive and follow it to the top of the Stanford Oval. The Program in Writing and Rhetoric is located in Building 460 at the top of the Stanford Oval.
